Church History

History

The concept of Reformation Lutheran church began at a backyard picnic in August 1983, with a small group of members at St Luke’s Lutheran Church.  In February 1987 Reformation Lutheran Church was officially received into Eastern District of the American Lutheran Church. In January 1988 we became part of the newly formed Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

We began worshipping at the Holiday Inn in July 1988, after a short stay there we moved to 610 South Main Street in September. Reverend G Wayne Sipe was our pastor from August 1985 until April 1989. Pastor David McCoy accepted our call in March,1990 and we renovated the current building.

Pastor McCoy was with us until March 1995 which at that time we were led to Pastor Fred Hodges in September 1996 – April 2000. The ELCA assigned James Fore and Deborah Frye to our growing congregation, who were very helpful in adding structure and organizational skills to us, they then moved on in November 2004.

In December 2004 we moved to 409 South Main Street, we were lucky to install Pastor Bradley Hales in May 2005.  In January,2010 we subleased and renovated a building located at 509 South Main Street for 6 years. We then moved to our current location at 601 Madison Road.

Current

We moved into our renovated building in March 2017, where we offer 5 services each week. After 6 years after much prayer and diligent work we located a property for sale and knew God led us to it, so now our 40 years of wandering is over as we OWN a property at 13324 Cedar Run Church Road.

Reformation is a multi-generational church filled with children, youth and older adults. We are centered in Jesus Christ as Savior, and whole-heartedly believe in the Word of God.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.
