Third Sunday after Pentecost – June 5, 2016
The stories of two widows with only sons figure prominently in the scriptures for today. Elijah heals the poor widow of Zaraphath’s son after she willingly provides a meal for the prophet. Jesus interrupts a funeral procession to raise a widow’s son from the dead. The restoration of health and caring for other physical concerns are among the ways God reveals his presence and power in the lives of those he loves.
Readings this week: Isaiah 66:10-14 10; Psalm 66:1-7; Galatians 6:1-10, 14-18; Luke 10:1-20
