Second Sunday after Pentecost

I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me

Second Sunday after Pentecost – May 29, 2016

Today’s lessons point to the power of faith and the importance of God’s Word, true worship, and sincere prayer. God is worthy of our worship and praise, for nothing has come into being apart from him. His servants, like King Solomon, Paul, and a Gentile soldier, all proclaim the majesty and power of God, submitting themselves to His power in their lives. We know we are unworthy, but Christ calls us “worthy.”

Readings this week: 1 Kings 8:22-24, 27-29, 41-43; Psalm 96; Galatians 1:1-12; Luke 7:1-10

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

On Sunday, May 22, is the Holy Trinity.  This is the third major festival the church celebrates. We believe that we have ONE God made up of three different, co-equal persons – the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

Pentecost Acts 2 1-31

Day of Pentecost – May 15, 2016

Pentecost is a day of promises fulfilled. The promised Spirit of God is poured out. The baptized have become “children of God” and “joint heirs with Christ.” By the power of the Spirit we have seen the face of the Father in his only begotten Son and been saved by him. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Readings this week: Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:24-34, 35b; Romans 8:14-17; John 14:8-17, [25-27]

Many, many thanks!

Both the PieceMakers Quilting Ministry and the Prayer Shawl Ministry would like to thank everyone who donated or took a chance on the beautiful quilt. Over $1,000 was raised! Funds will purchase materials to build new storage cabinets in our new church home. Special thanks to Pam Tharpe for her beautiful handiwork in creating the quilt. Blessings to you all.

Pentecost Wear Red 2015

On Sunday, May 15, the church celebrates the Pentecost. This occurs roughly 50 days (pente) from Jesus’ resurrection. As the disciples were waiting in Jerusalem, they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This allowed them to share the Gospel of Jesus in languages which were not their own. They also received God’s power, boldness and courage to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ The Pentecost is also known as the birth of the Church. (Acts 2:1-4).

Seventh Sunday of Easter — May 8, 2016

It is possible to hear in Jesus’ high priestly prayer, a prayer he offered shortly before his death, the petitions of the ascended Lord for his own throughout history—to our day—and beyond. Jesus prays for us. In Holy Baptism we become believers in God, have our robes washed in the blood of Christ’s forgiveness, and receive the gift of life forever with all the saints.

Readings this week: Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 97; Revelation 22:12-14, 16, 17, 20, 21; John 17:20-26
